Strategy

Equality, Diversity and Inclusion

YHA (England and Wales) strategy commits them to ensure that those who stay with them, benefit from their provision and support, and their employees and volunteers, reflect the demographics of England and Wales. This means looking hard at themselves. With their people and teams, YHA (England and Wales) are working on how they embed equity, diversity and inclusion across the organisation.

Structurally, YHA (England and Wales) are making progressive changes. As a youth charity it’s crucial they hear from young people. To engage young people in strategic decision making and to strengthen youth voice in it's governance, they established the Youth Advisory Team. Because they know that increasing access includes diversifying access to power and influence. The first cohort have made a fantastic contribution and the Chief Executive thanks them for the difference they’ve already made.

YHA Strategy “Adventure - for the first time and a life time” has access to their charitable assets as their core priority.

Their 4 Key Performance Indicators are:

  • To reach a million people every year
  • Half of these to be under 26
  • 50 000 of these to be those who have had more challenging backgrounds and multiple disadvantages
  • For their staff, volunteers, and beneficiaries to represent the communities that they serve
