Project Support Officer (Senior Executive Officer)

We are seeking Project Support Officers looking to develop their skills and work on some of the most interesting projects at the Home Office.

  • Experience of working in a Programme Management Office (PMO), and/or project/programme environment.
  • Have delivered or been involved in the delivery of projects / programmes within agreed time, cost and quality constraints. Have a sound understanding of project management tools and methodologies, and experience of applying them in practice.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with an understanding of the use of different channels and formats for different audiences.
  • Ability to be proactive, and able to work in a fast-paced environment, managing their own time and priorities effectively.
  • Be familiar with methods to map out and engage with stakeholders, confident and experienced in developing relationships with others both internal and external to the organisation. You will therefore have excellent interpersonal skills, and be able to communicate with impact both in person and writing.
  • Have practical experience of managing project risks, issues and dependencies.
  • Have led a team to deliver project outcomes with the ability to identify and nurture talent in order to build capacity and an interest in getting the best out of people.
  • Strong problem solving skills with the ability to form well thought out conclusions and recommendations.
  • Close attention to detail, good organisational skills, and an advocate of identifying lessons and sharing best practice.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Project, Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

You will have a recognised accreditation in professional project management such as:

  • PRINCE2 Practitioner
  • APM Project Management Practitioner
  • APM Project Management Qualification
  • APM Practitioner Qualification or other related qualification

If you do not hold a qualification mentioned above, your application would still be considered on the basis that you have proven experience against the essential criteria, and you are willing to work towards achieving one of the above qualifications, for which support will be provided.

We participate in the cross-government Federated Academies programme, which means our people have the chance to experience learning, knowledge sharing and networking within other government departments.

The launch of a new Home Office Project Delivery framework in 2019 have provided an opportunity for colleagues to learn how projects are managed and delivered in the department and how to achieve best practice aligned to the Infrastructure & Projects Authority Standard.
