Thank you for your interest in becoming a Project Manager at the Home Office. The Home Office keeps the UK secure and prosperous; protects its citizens, residents and visitors and their property; and upholds rights, liberties and the rule of law. We lead on border control, immigration and passports, crime and fire policy, security and counter-terrorism and work to ensure visible, responsive and accountable policing in the UK.

This role is an exciting opportunity for a dynamic and innovative person to be at the forefront of change in one of the great Departments of State. We are delivering significant transformation to continue keeping our citizens safe and our country secure. New technology and the fast-evolving nature of the threats we face mean we must adapt, and adapt fast, and with the need for change is greater than ever. Project Managers provide a key role delivering the Home Office Change Portfolio. It is large, complex and challenging and encompasses over 20 major and/or mission critical projects and programmes plus four business portfolios of change. There is a strong focus on agile, modular project delivery, supported by enterprise-wide portfolio management and you could find yourself working on a project for the UK’s critical national infrastructure through to a complex technology enabled business change programme.

As a project manager in the Home Office you will provide essential oversight in driving and overseeing the delivery of Home Office projects and managing the project teams on a day to day basis. You will ensure that projects are clearly defined and delivered within the agreed time, cost and quality constraints.

By applying knowledge and techniques to reduce ambiguity you will lead and manage projects in an environment of uncertainty and continual change. As well as having a technical understanding of how to deliver a project, you will be able to coach, develop, motivate and inspire people to operate at pace in a positive environment. You will also operate with senior stakeholders, using softer skills to negotiate and influence, whilst building and developing productive relationships. The right person for this role will be a strong team player with the ability to think strategically and work at pace and be comfortable working autonomously to drive progress as we operate in an often rapidly changing environment.

I am passionate about developing our project delivery capability and with our help and investment the role will give you the opportunity to continually develop as a Project Manager and a project delivery professional. We have a growing and active project delivery community in the department, which you would be part of.

We recognise the importance of diversity and inclusion as people from different backgrounds bring fresh ideas, thoughts and experiences. We are committed to creating a welcoming, inclusive environment where all our people are able to bring their whole selves to work and perform at their best. So, we would welcome applications from a range of backgrounds for these roles.

If you have the appetite to work on issues that directly impact the public and if you have the drive and determination to play a critical role in enabling change within this exciting role, then I look forward to hearing from you and wish you the very best of luck with your application.
