Selma House

Able to accommodate up to four young people aged 11-17 with EBD, Selma House have historically had a maximum of 2 young people at a time in placement due to having had solo placements requiring 2-3 staff, or 2 young people both requiring a minimum of 1:1 staffing.

Generally, placements have been female, although we are registered to support both males and females.

The support we provide to young people tend to have been around more acute needs, often coming to us as a ‘step down’ provision following being admitted as in patients due to their mental health, or having complex needs that have led to a placement breakdown elsewhere.

We are proud to say we have had some outstanding and rewarding success with supporting this transition for young people with complex needs, re-engaging in education and becoming active members of the wider community.

  • Self-harm and suicidal ideation
  • Risk of CSE and the need for close monitoring of online/ phone access
  • Learning difficulties
  • Emotional and cognitive processing challenges
  • Substance misuse

Maroon House

Slightly larger than Selma House, Maroon House maintains capacity at 5 mixed gendered young people aged 11-17 with EBD. We have typically had a mix of 2-3 females or 2-3 males at any given time. Most of the young people at Maroon House have free time to themselves out in the community, rarely requiring 1:1, however, most of the young people require support to access education and all require staff support whilst out in the community to spend and manage their allowances. Maroon House tends to be more ‘traditional’ needs within residential care, and again the therapeutic approaches to managing and understanding these risks is key. Young people at Maroon House can and will display challenging behaviour both within the home and out in the community.

  • At risk of criminal exploitation (county lines, theft)
  • Managing safe and positive relationships
  • Accessing and engaging in Education
  • Managing emotions leading to threats of or actual physical aggression
  • Substance misuse; typically, cannabis and alcohol
  • Missing episodes/ absconding
  • Understanding/ safeguarding their own sexual health
  • Managing their free time effectively/ safely
  • CSE risk both in the community and online

Both Selma and Maroon House are not just a house, but a home. We work endlessly to create a safe, stable, and secure environment for our young people to thrive and grow so we can watch them become the inspirational and successful people they deserve to be.
