Welcome

Welcome from the pupils

Welcome from the Governors

Dear Candidate,

On behalf of the staff, children and governors can I thank you for the interest you have shown in the Headteacher vacancy at Townfield Primary School. Our school is a very special place of which we are justifiably proud; with the appointment of the right candidate as our new Headteacher, we know it will grow to nationally-recognised levels of excellence.

Townfield Primary School is a heavily over-subscribed, “good with outstanding features” standalone academy located in the Oxton district of Wirral. It was the first primary school in the borough to convert to academy status in 2014, and still remains the only standalone provision (primary) in Wirral.

We are currently a two form entry school with 550 pupils on roll, and also have a highly successful day nursery that has been graded as being ‘outstanding’ by Ofsted. In addition, Townfield has an integrated hearing support base for up to 12 pupils and the inclusion of these children in all aspects of school life is the cornerstone of our child-centred ethos.

We are currently embarking on a new and exciting building project to expand to three form entry from September 2020, details of which include the building of a new early years block and hall in the extensive grounds at the rear of the school. This new accommodation will be developed to further facilitate and support our very popular and expanding forest school provision.

We are very proud of the achievement and progress of our children across the school with results and outcomes often above the national average. However, Townfield’s ethos is emphatically about the development of the whole child and therefore also has an outstanding reputation for the quality and breadth of its extra-curricular provision. In particular, we are immensely proud of our international links and educational visits in Russia (St Petersburg) and China (Shanghai), which have incorporated numerous reciprocal pupils visits.

Staff, pupils and governors share a boundless ambition and energy to be the best we can be, and are constantly searching for new ways to secure the best possible outcomes for all our pupils. We are now in the process of recruiting an experienced and exceptional individual to deliver these outcomes as our new Headteacher.

The successful candidate will lead an excellent school with a strong ethos and values, benefitting from:

  • our shared ambition to secure further improvement and achieve the best possible outcomes for all our pupils on a nationally recognised scale
  • highly ambitious five year vision planning, which the successful candidate will develop and lead alongside governors
  • well-motivated pupils with a passion for learning
  • hugely talented and committed staff
  • strong parental involvement
  • a long tradition of high quality teaching and learning, and of continuing professional development
  • very active and committed Governing Body which is dedicated to providing the Headteacher with the best professional support
  • sound finances and heavily oversubscribed school
  • an excellent school infrastructure and external grounds that are now benefitting from the major new building programme described above.

As a final piece of information, I would like to share with you comments recently received from a visitor that describes why our school is so special:

’I came and worked with your wonderful pupils a couple of weeks ago doing an Egyptian Day and I just thought I’d let you know my thoughts on my experience of your school.

From the very second of my arrival I could feel great warmth around the school; there was a real sense of love and care.

I was impressed with how the teachers interacted with their pupils; again you could really feel warmth and care passed onto the kids allowing them to shine.

I just wanted to give credit where credit is due not just to the staff but most importantly the pupils because they made my job really easy because of their behaviour and willingness to get involved with the activities I set them.

What a wonderful school you have and thank you to all who made it possible for me to come and work with your pupils."

A unique and exciting opportunity now exists for a dynamic, inspiring and empowering leader, with a clear vision and the ability to rise to the challenges of the future. If you believe you are that person, please contact Martin Blair at Hays Leadership on 07736791138 or at martin.blair@hays.com for a private and confidential discussion about the role or to arrange a visit to the school.

We look forward to receiving your application.

Yours sincerely

Ted Behan

Chair of the Governing Body
