We automatically enrol new employees into the Local Government Pension Scheme.

We offer a career average pension scheme, providing generous benefits upon retirement, as well as a lump sum and pension for dependants.

Your contribution rate is based on how much you are paid. It’s currently between 5.5% and 12.5% of your pensionable pay.

The town centre multi-storey car park on St Georges Way is available to SBC staff and is a short walk to our offices in Daneshill House.

There is also a staff car park adjacent to our Cavendish Road site.

The CSSC offers everyone who works at Stevenage Borough Council the opportunity to join a staff benefits scheme, giving access to a range of benefits including leisure activities, discounts on theatre, cinema and theme park tickets, and savings at High Street shops. Membership of the Civil Service Sports Council (CSSC)(opens in new window) is available to all employees whether permanent, temporary, contract or agency, at a cost of £4.99 a month.

All employees can join a Trade Union. For a small fee, members have access to free legal advice and assistance, welfare assistance and a whole range of discounted benefits, but more importantly, full representation in the workplace.

For employees based at our Daneshill House and Cavendish Road sites, electric pool bikes are available.

Through membership of the Arriva Employers Travel Club Employees can receive up 20% discount on monthly bus tickets.

10% discount is also available on Centre Bus season tickets.

All Stevenage Borough Council staff are eligible to sign up for free to the SmartGo Stevenage scheme and access a wide range of discounts on buses, trains, bikes as well as wider ranging discounts such as 7.5% off in Halfords.

Access to our free EAP and OH services provides confidential advice and support on personal, work, family, and relationship issues.

Employees who need glasses for screen use will receive a free eye test and a financial contribution towards the cost of the glasses.
