Our aims and guiding principles for our service users have remained constant since the opening of the first home in 1995.

To help and encourage each service user to develop to his/her maximum potential and independence.

To provide the service users with a suitable environment for the development of appropriate personal relationships.

To provide each service user with an individual care programme.

To enable the service users to lead as normal a life as possible.

To continuously pursue the process of training, care and introduction to new experiences, thus enabling service users to develop new abilities and skills.

To encourage the service users to wash, dress and feed themselves with minimum intervention from the support staff until self-dependency is achieved.

To increase self-awareness and awareness of others by encouragement and example.

To enable the service users to live as members of a local community and be accepted and treated as ordinary citizens, and to foster relationships with the local community.

To create an atmosphere of equality in each home.

To provide specialist help, support, guidance and sometimes protection to enable service users to enjoy the benefits of community life, including memberships of organisations and clubs.

To provide the opportunity for appropriate leisure time activities and pursuits.

To allow the service users to take an active part in running their homes, including cooking, cleaning, shopping, gardening, washing etc.

To enable each service user to take advantage of the privacy offered and to develop the freedom of choice.

To ensure that the service users have a well-balanced diet, with sufficient exercise, in order to maintain good health.

To minimise anti-social behaviour by means of observation, understanding and discussion within a multi-disciplinary team.

To manage challenging behaviour and associated risks by means of proactive, positive behaviour support strategies.

To monitor and maintain stable mental health for all service users.

Where possible, each service user is involved in devising and reviewing their own individual care plans with the support of their key worker.

Depending on the needs of the service user, we can facilitate adult education & home days. At weekends we offer activities such as cinema trips, shopping, eating out, bowling, walks, drives, trips to the coast or simply being in the garden on a warm summer’s day.

The service users are invited to attend regular meetings where they are free to discuss anything they feel will improve not just their home, but their lives and New Boundaries Group as a service provider.
