As a medium sized district council employing over 500 staff and supporting around 129,000 residents, Eastleigh Borough Council is an ambitious Council, delivering a wide range of major projects and initiatives for our communities. Eastleigh Borough Council was recently described in its Corporate Peer Review as ‘a well-run and successful Borough Council with a clear vision and ambition to shape the place and improve the lives of local people’, and the in-house Legal Team are a key part of the delivery of this vision.

We are seeking to appoint to two key roles, a Head of Legal Services and a Legal Senior Specialist (Contracts and Public Procurement).

The Head of Legal Services will be dynamic with experience in providing robust due diligence, legal support and advice with an ability to apply lateral thinking and consider different perspectives. The successful candidate will be the Council’s most senior professional qualified solicitor and will be responsible for delivering a professional and ‘best in class’ legal service including responsibility for corporate procurement and insurance support. Leading an in-house team of qualified lawyers and specialists advising on all aspect of law including procurement and data protection.

The Legal Senior Specialist (Contracts and Public Procurement) will have the opportunity to advise on some really exciting projects, including the One Horton Heath Programme. The role would include advising on a wide range of matters including contracts for goods and services, construction contracts (including NEC and JCT), public procurement, company law and governance and general commercial and contracts advice. There may be scope to also work with our data protection and freedom of information team if you have experience in those areas, but this is not essential. You would be expected to mentor and support more junior members of the team.
