Learning and Development Manager

You will work as a Learning and Development Manager and will have responsibility for the non-operational training and development for the whole Service, across all workgroups. You will provide management and leadership for the OD Partners and Systems and IT Trainer as well as influencing the learning and development and OD approach to senior managers.

Striving to achieve increased capacity through increased employee capability, this role will provide an approach that aligns to DFRS’ ethics, core values and behaviours. Working closely with their Inclusion, Human Resource and Operational Training Teams, you will seek to transform the development of their people, supporting change and identifying areas and solutions for continuous improvement and enhance capability.

You will work as part of a highly valued and visible People and OD Team to lead and drive organisational development initiatives. This new post will play a key role in the delivery of DFRS’ People Strategy which is forward looking, innovative, people centered. Providing professional advice and guidance to the Head of Department, you will have responsibility for developing and facilitating a range of L&D programmes including leadership development, team effectiveness, workforce planning, talent management and coaching. There will also be an expectation that you will become involved in national OD initiatives led by the National Fire Chiefs Council (NFCC).

Your new company:

You will work for Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service within the People and Organisational Development Portfolio. This portfolio has four departments with over 100 people. The role operates within the state-of-the-art Joint Police and Fire Headquarters in Ripley, Derbyshire with expectation and opportunity to work across all DFRS’ sites including the pioneering Joint Training Centre.

What you need to be successful:

As an experienced L&D and OD practitioner you will have an established track record of developing and delivering effective learning and development and OD programmes and initiatives.

You will have exemplary communication and motivation skills with a strong ability to influence, coach and facilitate organisational change, recognizing the internal customer while meeting organisational objectives.

Evidence of effective team leadership in a L&D, OD or similar context is required, along with a sound understanding of current trends and developments in training and development.
