Pay awards are made in line with current Civil Service pay arrangements and terms and conditions of the department the role sits within. It is important to note that successful candidates are likely to start at the minimum of the salary pay range.

Smarter Working

Smarter working is about modernising the way in which the Home Office works. It’s a business based approach designed to enable people to be more flexible in terms of how, where and when they work. Modernising how, where and when we work is a key part of transforming the Home Office. Smarter working will help achieve this, both by reducing demand for space in buildings through more use of remote and flexible working and making better use of the estate by consolidating and modernising workspace so that it can be used more flexibly.

Leave Allowance

Full time new entrants to the Civil Service will be entitled to 25 days annual leave plus 8 days’ public holiday and one privilege day (in recognition of the Queen’s Birthday) a year (pro rata if you work part-time). Your leave entitlement will increase to 30 days after 10 years’ service in the Home Office.

Pension

The Civil Service offers pension arrangements. Your pension is a valuable part of your total reward package where:

  • The employer makes a significant contribution to the cost of your pension
  • Your contributions come out of your salary before any tax is taken.
  • Your pension will continue to provide valuable benefits for you and your family if you are too ill to continue to work or die before you retire.
