About us
Why are we a Consortium - Our origin story
Why are we called Consortium, how did we come to exist and how does this shape who we are today?
Community Lives Consortium is a charity established in 1989. We developed from a shared desire and a few common problems. This desire was for people with learning disabilities to enjoy a home in the community with all the freedoms, opportunities, and security that we all enjoy. This home should give them the security, skills, and confidence to become valued citizens making a real contribution to the communities around them.
This desire was felt by parents like our founder Mr. Maurice Wilde who wanted a home for life with personal support for his son Stuart. It was felt by Brian Roberts, Chris Edwards and Sharran Richards who were part of the early self-advocacy groups calling for the right to their own home and the freedom to live the lives that they chose. It was felt by the local Housing Associations who wanted to feel skilled in supporting tenants with additional needs. It was felt by sparky professionals in West Glamorgan Social Services and Health Authority inspired by the All-Wales Strategy for people with Learning Disability which brought new ideas and new money.
These people and groups all had the same problems; getting information, finding like-minded trusted allies, and the confidence to create a shared plan. Our Consortium initially the West Glamorgan Housing Consortium and then Community Lives Consortium was, and still works to be, the fulfillment of this ambition and is the ongoing resolution to these common problems.
Today this translates into our commitment to being:
We are proud to be a Consortium
Our Statements of Purpose describes how we provide our regulated services. These documents will give you detail about the services that we provide.
FINAL - CLC Statement of Purpose October 2024-v8These are our latest set of Annual Accounts for the year up to 31st March 2024. This will give you information about the financial performance of the organisation. In the current year our Management Accounts unto December 2024 are showing a surplus of £316,543.
Abbreviated accounts 2324 from Annual reportIn 2023 the Care Inspectorate Wales said they were going to introduce a rating scale for support services from April 2025. Over the last year these ratings have been silent, this means that they are not published in our reports, but we are informed by our Inspector how we are doing. These ratings will help people looking for services, but will be really helpful for organisations like us working to be as good as we can be.
To be rated as excellent we must not only provide a consistent high quality service for everybody but we must also be innovative and push the boundaries for organisations like ourselves.
Lynda our Responsible Individual has worked really hard with the Locality & Support Managers to understand the ratings, use Service Development Plans to review support, meet people to get their views, to dig into our performance data to highlight for problems, and to use our Service Development manager to find solutions.
In our last inspection, in May 24 we were informed that we had all Excellent silent ratings. This is wonderful but now we need to keep this up.
You can read our Inspection reports hereWe produce our Annual Report as an online presentation, we do this so that we can make it as accessible as possible to the variety of people with an interest in our company.
We offer this to candidates to give them the best understanding of us as they take part in the selection process.
Annual report 2324Our Organisational Development Plan details our plans for change over the next two years. We will use this plan significantly in the selection process for this post - the Organisational Development Plan will be shared with shortlisted candidates. CLC Organisational Development PlanWe are working to become a Disabled Person's User-led Organisation, we believe if successful we will be one of the first large social care orgnisations to be formally user-led. This document describes our progress in this area.
Being User-ledOur Locality model is key to becoming user-led, in our localities through our Change Teams we have made huge progress in managing our services in partnership with the people that we support and helping them to cooperate together to become active in the communities in which they live.
Introducing our Localities and networks - Annual Report Support in our Localities - Annual reportWe are working collaboratively to rethink supported living to mean more than supporting people in their own homes, to being networks of citizens working together in their communities to maximise their wellbeing.
We have now agreed a 2-year plan with our Commissioners to develop this approach. This will help people in our Change teams to become leaders in the communities in which they live so while they are improving their own lives, they can also improve the lives of the people that live around them. This document describes the objectives of this 2-year plan.
5 Easy read - Being active in resilient welcoming communities ObjectivesWe recognise our role in addressing the climate emergency. We are obviously concerned with de-carbonisation but want to also focus on education adaptation with the people we support and in the communities in which they live. This document describes what we are doing in this area.
