Train with us

Bradford College offers inspirational, passionate, creative and skilled delivery of a range of Teacher Training programmes. Our holistic provision aims to stretch all learners within a supportive learning environment. Tutors are highly knowledgeable and skilled practitioners, current in their disciplines, working collaboratively. Learners become confident, independent, reflective and employable individuals who have both the skills and desire to be lifelong learners.

25% of Primary and 33% of secondary NOTs in 2016 employed in Bradford were trained through a Bradford College route (Bradford Authority data 2016)

At the heart of our provision is an unequivocal commitment to equality of opportunity and access, supported by successful selection and recruitment processes which underpin a strong tradition of producing effective school practitioners grounded in educating children in a multiethnic world; this is reflected, in part, in the College’s mission statement and ethos.

To work together to create a better future for all through education, enterprise and employment. (Bradford College’s mission statement)

The College’s mission statement drives ITT provision and its contribution to the widening participation agenda with many undergraduates being first generation HE trainees.

“I have enjoyed and more importantly benefited from every module and lecture/seminar attended. These modules made me look at myself, my teaching and chosen profession in different ways.” - PCET trainee

“An overall good experience at Bradford College. Good access to support and a stimulating teaching environment” – BA (Hons) QTS Final Year Student End of Course Survey

The faculty

ITT provision within the Faculty comprises Primary (UG and PG), Secondary (PG) and PCET. Management of ITT positively responds to and effects change; it continually reflects on its provision to develop dynamic and innovative curricula that address the contemporary needs of trainees as well as the needs of educational settings where they will be employed.

The provision is directly influenced by strongly held beliefs about the nature of Teacher Education, moving trainees from being effective learners to becoming effective teachers. It is manifest in our Teacher Education mission statement:

We want all our trainees to be informed, reflective and successful learners, confident individuals and responsible teachers, able to meet the diverse needs of all those they teach. This will be achieved through providing high quality, creative and integrative approaches to education.

Our staff team is exceptional; we are very experienced practitioners with a wealth of knowledge and expertise in a range of educational settings. We are passionate about the importance of training outstanding teachers whose influence on their pupils can be life-long. Our support for trainees is second to none; to use another cliché, we really do go the extra mile.

Tutors are always easy to contact and respond very quickly. We put trainees at the heart of what we do, just as schools put pupils at the heart of their provision. We care and show our care for trainees.

We model excellent classroom practice in our own teaching, using the latest technologies and research. Theory links to practice in realistic ways that benefit trainees when they are in front of a class or working with small groups and individuals.

Above all, we know each trainee extremely well and seek to meet their needs in inclusive and equitable ways.
