Leave Entitlement

The basic annual leave entitlement is 23 days per annum (pro rata if part time) increasing to 28 days after 5 years continuous local government service. There are also an additional 2 statutory days.

Flexi Time

Unless there is a contractual exception the flexi scheme is available to employees.

Agile Working

We promote agile working for all workers.  ‘Agile Working’ is based on the philosophy that work is something we do not somewhere we go – it is an activity not a place…..based on an agreement between a line manager and their team member which is not contractual and subject to the business need.

Agile working may include work from an office base, a touch down point around the Councils’ districts and/or work from home.

Modern, accessible office accommodation in Ipswich*

Based in our conveniently located offices at Endeavour House, Ipswich, with other public organisations, the building has excellent facilities including canteen and coffee shop. We are also located relatively near to the Town Centre and easy access to the train station. Employees have access to the Suffolk County Council Green Travel plan. Some of our employees may be based in the actual districts

*This is normally based at our modern and conveniently located office accommodation, however, during the COVID 19 pandemic, we have been working at home and it has worked really well for us.

Eye Tests

Eye Care Vouchers can be requested from the Health and Safety Team for designated VDU users to access free eye tests.

The Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) is a confidential service intended to support councillors and officers, including their partners and any children living with them, to make positive changes and resolve any challenges which may be impacting work performance, life, health, and wellbeing.

Healthcare Options

All employees have the option to a paid discounted health care scheme with either Bupa or Benenden Healthcare Society, and a health care cash plan with BHSF. (The Councils do not contribute to these schemes.)

Suffolk Coaching and Mentoring Partnership

SCMP was created in January 2010 with the aim of providing high quality coaching and mentoring across Suffolk through the creation of a coaching pool.  Business coaching and mentoring is completely free to any employee within SCMP’s partnership organisations.
