Auto-Sleepers is due to break ground next March on their biggest investment ever on the expansion of their current site in Willersey Nr Broadway Worcs. The expansion of their current production site represents a circa £8M investment over 7 acres. This investment involves infrastructure, building, production equipment, lifting/moving equipment, presses and automation.

They are seeking a Head of Manufacturing to begin Feb/March 2023 when the commencement of the initial expansion construction begins. Reporting to the CEO, the individual will be responsible for local site production, quality, supply chain, engineering and procurement. You will have 5 direct reports

Your role will involve two primary focuses:

Understand the business aims, objectives, values, people, management and production processes. To evaluate, review, recommend and implement strategies, process to improve efficiency on both the production line, sub assembly and people/culture. To be the catalyst for change and culture that the expansion will bring. To prepare, inspire, encourage people to engage and follow you on the journey that this expansion brings through the vision you deliver.

To be fully responsible for the expansion program from inception to completion. To evaluate, review, recommend and implement strategies and processes for the new production line, sub assembly and manufacturing processes. Your primary aims will include improving efficiency and output (changing current production lines adding suitable machine and automation where recommended), increasing quality, reducing labour costs, automation, people and culture. This responsibility, ownership and accountability is all encompassing, the only aspects you will not be able to change are the size of the expansion and the external building plans!


Reporting to the CEO the Head of Manufacturing will be responsible for local site production, quality, supply chain, engineering and procurement.

The individual will lead from the front and ensure implementation of best practice to improve quality and efficiency.

Detailed responsibilities will include:

  • Monitoring operational performance and instigate corrective action where necessary.
  • Seeking out opportunities to deliver operational excellence initiatives and programmes aimed at driving down cost whilst improving efficiencies and delivering against quality targets.
  • Involved in managing the P&L and delivering the business objectives
  • Deliver results required within business plans which will include reporting on the department’s performance
  • Drive and share best practice across the business and across all group businesses.
  • Manage and monitor daily operation
  • Provide strong leadership to maximise quality and quantity of output.
  • Responsible for succession planning and developing individuals within the management team through coaching and development
  • Ensure that processes and systems are developed and enhanced
  • Meeting all set KPIs and achieving targets.
  • Ensure that the Department runs with legality and conformity to established regulations, including compliance with all legal, environmental and health & safety requirements.

As Head of Manufacturing, you will have a proven track record of delivering success in a substantial Operational leadership role and will lead by example driving a positive working culture of continuous improvement and development. Further selection criteria will include, but not be limited to;

  • Excellent track record of leadership with the ability to demonstrate where you have motivated and inspired your teams to deliver world class performance levels.
  • Deep understanding of manufacturing processes and how to continually improve them.
  • Experience of using ERP system and exploiting system capability and disciplines to achieve improved performance.
  • A clear understanding of key operational performance drivers and how to impact them.
  • The ability to set swift and effective corrective action when performance falls below expectation.

The Person

You will have a proven track record of delivering success in a substantial operational leadership role and will lead by example driving a positive working culture of continuous improvement and development. Ideally you would have demonstrable experience of delivering an expansion project of this nature either involving new build, relocation, expansion or turnaround of a production/manufacturing site.

The client is open to individuals from any industry background however this is not a mass volume production product. Their products are handcrafted on an individual bespoke basis with high specification tolerances with emphasis on quality in line with the brand and customer expectations. A proven background in niche product manufacture is required.

As an individual, you must be comfortable with full autonomy and responsibility for delivery across all aspects of the role and manufacturing business. As well as being technically competent, you must possess the abilities to lead from the front, be hands on in your approach, to challenge, to create a vision for all, be passionate about the organisation, the product and the people.

  • Annual salary in range £85000- £100000 (depend on exp)
