Digital Strategy

“A world class digital campus and digital experience for everyone that engages with York St John”

Hello and thank you for your interest in applying for a role in IT at York St John University, where we have invested significantly in the support and expertise to enhance our digital capabilities. We have an ambitious digital strategy to deliver the capabilities that York St John needs to meet its goals.

The digital strategy aims to place as much care and attention into the design of the digital campus as it does to its physical campus.

Technology is at the heart of how we engage with our students and the wider YSJ community, how we empower our students and employees, deliver teaching and learning, manage our business, and collaborate with our partners. Having the right digital capabilities will enable us to respond more rapidly to challenges and will act as an accelerator on our transformation journey allowing us to maximise our opportunities.

We are looking to expand our team to support the delivery and onward support of some exciting digital initiatives. We are looking for enthusiastic and flexible staff who will champion technology and support us in driving forward our ambitions, ensuring York St John University moves to the next stage of its development.

We have invested in a new and exciting agile office space for our IT staff, and we support flexible working arrangements.

A number of the roles that are on offer are fixed term with a view to becoming permanent. I am confident that if we successfully deliver the new technologies that we are planning, which include CRM, Unified Communications, Data Platforms, and future learning spaces, that these roles will be extended.

I really look forward to hearing from you and hopefully meeting you soon.

The strategy has three strands

  • Designing and implementing our digital technologies to deliver the strategies vision and value proposition – supported by a set of roadmaps that will develop over time. The design is underpinned by a set of core principles and pledges.

  • Empowering our community to capitalise on the technologies available. Developing communities of practise, access to training and information and engaging staff in innovation.

  • Developing our IT Department to support the future needs of our digital campus. Ensuring we can manage and maintain what we deliver using industry standard best practise.

A vision for our student experience and our digital workplace

Our community will have access to digital tools that support collaboration inside and outside the University. We will create a simple, modern, consistent environment that makes our lives easier with the ability to work anytime, anywhere and on any device. We will provide seamless access to the information that we need.

The digital experience will be personalised, easy to use and focused on the functionality and features demanded by our students and staff. We will integrate the best online learning tools to deliver a mobile friendly environment where collaboration is easy.

These visions are supported by two technical roadmaps that outline the anticipated digital investments, these include collaboration tools, applications and associated hardware. This is how we will change our user experience layer.

A vision for our data, integration and infrastructure

We will manage our data effectively in integrated data repositories collecting data items only once, maintaining them only in one place, providing those that have the right to access data with a single version of the truth in a consistent and secure manner.

We will design a data framework that applies to all structured, semi-structured and unstructured electronic data. Underpinning this framework we will have data services such as Enterprise Data Management, Integration, Business Intelligence, Advanced Analytics, Knowledge Management and Search Capabilities.

Our infrastructure will be resilient, reliable, efficient, up to date and high performing in order to support the technologies we require.

Two technical roadmaps outline the investment journey to achieving these goals. This is how we will change our foundation layers.
