Worcester County Council’s Commercial Service spends over £600M per year with external organisations for goods, services and works to support the delivery of the Council’s priorities. We need to use this spending power wisely and strategically to meet our Best Value responsibilities to:

Our commercial activity has a significant effect on the success of the Council, especially at a time when the Public Sector is facing considerable financial challenges, our role is key in supporting the recovery from the impact of COVID-19.
To ensure we maximise on commercial opportunities, we are embarking on a significant transformation journey through adopting category management. We are seeking individuals who have a successful track record in category management to help drive this approach and provide an enhanced combination of support and challenge to our commissioning practitioners by:
- Leading the way in seeking out opportunities for financial savings and ensuring that these become real cost reductions
- Undertaking research and engaging with the market to both understand and influence the existing and future demand for our services
- Exploiting opportunities to make cost savings through investing and enhancing our category, supplier and contract management activities; pursuing partnering and collaborative opportunities and, developing a skilled commercial team to deliver our requirements.
