Welcome Main

Welcome

Thank you for taking an interest in joining our team at Wightwick Hall School. As a generic co-educational special school, we cater for a wide range of needs for students between the ages of 11 and 19. Teachers and support staff need to be prepared to work with a wide range of abilities, and capable of adapting materials on an individual basis. We believe in all students having the opportunity to thrive and learn new things every day. We want our staff and learners to be curious, and encourage this in our approach to learning, whether this be through sensory play or writing a story. We want to equip all learners with the skills, knowledge and understanding necessary for them to achieve what they are capable of.

To support the local and national demand for special school places, the school grew considerably in September 2023, and we look forward to further growth ready for September 2024, with the development of a new area for students with more complex needs. With this expansion our staff team continues to grow, and we are looking forward to welcoming more passionate and dedicated staff. Wightwick staff work hard to have a happy and safe school, and in doing so, make sure that they also support each other. In our recent well being survey, staff reported the following:

  • 95% of staff said they have a positive working relationship with colleagues
  • 98% said that hey feel their work contributes to the success of the school
  • 86% said they find their job interesting and stimulating
winter

We run a ‘celebrating the wins’ thread on our staff email, where staff share those little things that make us so proud of our students. A colleague added to a particularly busy thread in a way that sums up what Wightwick stands for…

“The love in this thread tonight is amazing.

There is a reason why we have several staff members that have given years and years and years of service to Wightwick and that’s because it’s hard to imagine working elsewhere.

There will always be difficult days and challenges, but the teamwork that is happening at the moment is the strongest I have ever seen in all my years at this school.

Keep being there for each other, because it really does make the job that bit easier to do when you have a strong team surrounding you”.

With growth comes the challenges of change, and we continue to develop our curriculum, and behavioural approaches, to cater for a bigger school with a wide range of needs. We welcome staff who thrive on being part of this exciting time at Wightwick, where we welcome new ideas and the sharing of expertise. We continue to invest in staff CPD and look forward to welcoming guest speaker Mark Finnis to talk to us about restorative practice in September, and Dave Harris and Dr Matthew McFall in October to talk to do a workshop on Curiosity and Wonder. With our old Stately home building and 11 acres of gardens, steeped in local history, we are excited to see what ideas we will take away from it!
