The role
Reporting to the Service Director for Strategy & Governance, the Service Lead for Legal & Democratic Services will be a qualified lawyer who will lead the Council’s Democratic, Elections, and Legal Services Teams.
During Covid, the Council transformed how it conducted its public meetings, holding them remotely whilst permitted to do so. That change in how we did business saw significantly enhanced levels of public engagement with the Council’s democratic processes, and this is something that we have worked hard to ensure will continue in the post-Covid environment. The Service lead for Legal and Democratic Services will play a critical role in continuing to drive improvements in how we engage with the communities that we serve.
As the Service Lead, you will also be required to provide high level, complex legal advice to senior officers and Members. This means that you will have the opportunity to be involved in a broad range of high profile projects within the district, including:
- Regeneration
- Leisure
- Environment
As Deputy Monitoring Officer, you will be critical in helping to maintain good governance arrangements within the Council. You will also support the Council in promoting high levels of good conduct by Members of the Council and members of the many town and parish councils within the district. The Service Lead for Legal and Democratic Services will need to have a keen sense of political awareness.
