Amy Jone

Amy Jones

Deputy Head of Sixth Form

When I joined Weald, I was looking for an outstanding school that would assist me in developing my teaching and also offer opportunities for career development. I have been fortunate enough to take part in a wide variety of training courses, including learning about coaching and mentoring. The school is forward thinking and therefore teacher training remains at its heart and I feel my teaching has vastly improved in my time here.

Ultimately, the biggest incentive to join the school was the students. Weald students are academically driven and passionate about their learning. This allows the teaching staff to think creatively in the classroom and focus on delivering lessons that will engage and excite. I am privileged to work as Deputy Head of Sixth Form, which allows me to work closely with our School Council and our A Level students, a job which remains highly rewarding.

Amy Jone

Esther Hardman

Head of Year 8

I have been working at Weald of Kent Grammar School for fifteen years as a French and Spanish teacher. Throughout this time, I have had opportunities to develop myself professionally in a variety of roles including Primary outreach, helping to lead the MFL department and now in my current role as Head of Year across our two sites.

Opportunities to follow personal interests, such as the use of ICT in the teaching of Modern Foreign Languages, have led to speaking opportunities both locally and nationally, and the dynamism of our dual site model keeps me stretched and challenged in terms of strategic planning and management skills.

The staff body is friendly and supportive – not just from my perspective but also from that of visitors and new staff who say the same.

Weald of Kent Grammar School is fresh and forward thinking, and welcomes those who work hard to make a difference in student’s lives.

Oliver Morgan

Head of History

Working at Weald of Kent Grammar School gives me the opportunity to teach polite, hardworking and conscientious students who are driven to be successful across all areas of their lives within school. It is a pleasure to teach within an environment that allows students to be stretched and challenged in order to make rapid progress across the full range of years and Key Stages. However, the school is by no means an exam factory. A clear emphasis is placed upon developing the whole child and this manifests itself in the extensive extracurricular programme on offer for students. For us as teachers, this provides a wealth of opportunities to work with students outside of the classroom in order to promote their intellectual curiosity and wider development.

The Senior Leadership Team within school is active and approachable. We as members of staff are supported in pursuing training and developmental opportunities that will help us to progress. We are fortunate to be well resourced and the school is continuing to invest in developing facilities for the future. Based over two sites there is definitely a community feel, the Heads of Year work tirelessly to ensure that all students are part of the school community and that their pastoral needs are well catered for at all times.

I feel hugely privileged to lead the History Department, a team which is made up of hard working and supportive colleagues who consistently do their best to instil a passion of historical learning in all students. As a team we are provided with regular opportunities to collaborate and share best practice, in order to help us continue to develop fresh ideas and approaches. The school supports us in our aims and we are encouraged not only to focus on exam successes, but on helping students to be enquiring and well informed individuals, who are able to question and understand the world around them.
