This shared vision binds all members of our school community together and promotes a culture of respect, trust and confidence.

Our agreed Values are built on:

  • Individuality
  • Integrity
  • Good Manners
  • Tolerance
  • Resilience

Ofsted judged the school to be outstanding in April 2007 and has confirmed that this level of performance has been sustained. We are not a complacent school and we demand that the learning experience for our students moves with the times whilst maintaining the traditions of good manners, discipline and respect for others.

Weald of Kent is an outstanding school, since 2008, the Leadership and Management of the school have been working tirelessly on ensuring that raising standards in all areas and raising student achievement is at the heart of every strategic decision made. Strategic whole school systems for monitoring and reporting the progress that students are making towards their targets are in place. All students are set two targets, a statistical target (expected progress with challenge) and a personal target (which may be more aspirational) and their progress is monitored by leaders at all levels. All teachers are set a Performance Development target linked to the progress of their students. Performance Development targets linked to the student performance across their wider level of accountability are set for leaders at all levels. Pay decisions for teaching progression are dependent upon students making at least expected levels of progress. All Heads of Department, Year and Subject produce a detailed evaluative exams’ analysis report at the start of Term 1. We are not complacent and in September 2012 joined PiXL 6 and in 2014 PiXl 4.

The Leadership and Management of the school are focused sharply on teaching and learning and ensuring that the quality of the teaching experienced by our students at this school is at least good and that is the school’s minimum expectation. All teaching staff and teams are RAGGED in terms of their performance. The expectation is that all teaching staff will be assessed as at least 'good' for their learning and teaching strategies. All leaders in the school are trained in self-evaluation skills using a Standards; Quality and Effectiveness model. We have used ASCL lesson observation materials to train all of our leaders in making accurate lesson observation judgements. We have robust and rigorous quality assurance procedures and leaders at all levels participate in these activities. We use paired observations routinely in order to moderate judgements across the school. We run internal professional development courses for any staff who are either needing to be good consistently or aspiring to be outstanding consistently. Our PD processes are becoming increasingly bespoke. We have been accredited as a Thinking School by Exeter University. The impact of this sustained focus on improving the Quality of Teaching is that our students experience an outstanding learning experience at Weald.

We offer excellent support for our students and students are organised into Form Groups which are led by Form Tutors. Heads of Year oversee each of the year group teams. We have a very successful Student Services’ Department led by our SENCo that is responsible for ensuring that our students’ well-being and learning needs are met throughout their time in the school. We have fully compliant safeguarding practices and students know who to approach if they have any safeguarding concerns. We have an excellent reputation within the community for the standard of behaviour and safety in the school.
