I am looking forward to working closely with both our new Director of Finance, Revenues and Benefits and Head of Finance to deliver the very best for the council and therefore the people of Uttlesford. I believe we can offer a very different way of working than many other councils, both in terms of the great opportunity that each of these roles provides, but also our approach to hybrid working.

There is much to do. Immediate priorities include supporting the organisation through the transition to new ways of working and by doing so meeting the financial challenges we face, resolving our backlog of unaudited accounts and preparing us for 2025/26 and beyond. Effective leadership skills will be key to this – ensuring staff are engaged, informed and developed and that we make the most of the new ways of working.

The Director of Finance, Revenues and Benefits will have a key role to play on our Board and will represent the council at many external meetings, in many instances deputising for me as the Section 151 Officer.

The Head of Finance will lead the finance team on a day to day basis and further develop the team. Ultimately you will also be developing yourself, ideally ready to be the next Director of Finance, Revenues and Benefits and Deputy S151 Officer.
