"I have been at the UEA for just over a year and WOW what a year it has been!
As the Deputy Head of Maintenance at the UEA and the Intelligent Client Quadram, it has been busy, challenging and exciting all at the same time!
The Quadram Intelligent client role is a contract the UEA won in 2017, something they have never done before! A new building on 4.95 acres consisting of 13,197m2 GIA, encompassing an Endoscopy hospital unit, clinical research facility and laboratories. We gained Practical Completion on the 19th July 2018 and our first patient walked through the doors on the 10th December 2018. My role here has been key to driving Practical Completion and occupation, ensuring a dynamic building that has the right Facilities service in place for the end users . The UEA were also awarded the Catering contract and we are now looking for other opportunities to broaden our horizons.
The UEA is a huge, diverse, challenging and yet dynamic campus. Having worked in both the public and private sectors for the last 18 years, in the facilities arena, it is without doubt the greatest place I have ever worked. The team are a TEAM, we have some legends and no matter what happens day to day , everyone is there to help and resolve the problem, issue or concern. Covering PPM and reactive maintenance, as well as smallworks and building fabric works, it is always busy and curve balls are thrown, but we take them head on and resolve everything we are given, efficiently and effectively.
We have great relationships with the Faculties and end users , to help enhance the university experience for all who work, study and visit us.
We are always looking at innovation to help us be the best that we can be, and accommodate the daily trials and tribulations that encompass keeping the University running.
We take the attitude “everything is a pleasure, never a chore”.
Please come and meet us and become part of the Great Team that is Maintenance at the UEA and experience it first hand for yourself.
We look forward to seeing you at our open day."
Charlie Dowen
Deputy Head of Maintenance / Intelligent client Quadram
