Equality, diversity and inclusion
Equality, diversity and inclusion is paramount for the borough and the Council and is reflected in the recent Southwark Stands Together that has been agreed as a long-term programme of positive action, education and initiatives for the council to work in solidarity with Southwark’s communities and the council’s staff to tackle racism, injustice and inequality.
Southwark Council recognises that the diversity of their population and their workforce is a strength. They value the differences between people, and the ways that those differences can contribute to a richer, creative and more productive work environment. And, by placing equality at the heart of their fairer future vision, they aim to:
- Improve the quality of life for Southwark’s people
- Improve social cohesion
- Promote people's rights and responsibilities
- Ensure they have a workforce that understands and is committed to achieving these goals and retains the confidence of their local communities.
Everything that they do as a council is to achieve their vision of a fairer future for all in Southwark. Their residents are at the heart of everything they do and they've helped them form the values that underpin the work of the council. Their values will continue to inform all the work they do across the council and what you can expect from them.
