You may believe you know a lot about Southend as a place to work and visit, but I can guarantee you there’s so much more to this fantastic city than you might think. Aside from over 7 miles of glittering coastline and award-winning beaches, next to one of the most historic maritime areas in the world, Southend is home to many fantastic parks, ancient woodland and nationally significant ecological habitats with numerous threatened species. Do you know about Southend’s buzzing cultural scene, mixing theatres with fantastic music of all genres, from small independent venues to large numerous festivals and inspiring events like City Jam, our international street art festival…..and City Day, which celebrates all that we are as a people and place. Did you know we have 9 railway stations in the city and connecting our shoreline with the head of the longest pleasure pier in the world, own trainline? And yes, you can also get fantastic fish and chips here, and many other great cuisines besides.

But what about the Council? I’ve been here for a while now and have personally benefitted from the ambition and creativity of Southend-on-Sea City Council, from the opportunity these have created for me, and for my fellow residents. At Southend you will be part of a forward thinking Council at a very exciting time, as we work with our many friends and partners to embrace Devolution, and make sure that we continue to seize the nettle and keep the momentum of our journey to be even better at supporting the city’s growth and our 180,000 residents.
