Payroll support, payroll processes, pensions and benefits will be part of the Payroll Officers' role.

Your new company

As a forward thinking local government organisation, Reigate & Banstead Council based in the heart of Surrey are looking for a perm Payroll Officer to join their growing OD & HR team. The Payroll Officer will be critical in the delivery of a timely end to end payroll and pensions service across the organisation to ensure accuracy and compliance.

Your new role

  • Provide advice, support and assistance to managers, staff , election workers and Councillors to ensure consistent application and understanding of payroll policies and processes
  • To administer the processes and tasks connected to the organisation’s payroll and pensions function
  • Accurate input of high volume, complex employee/payroll data within agreed timelines
  • To be the first point of contact for payroll enquiries – providing support and advice where appropriate or signposting enquiries to the appropriate point
  • To provide metrics and analytics relating to payroll and pensions matters for reporting and compliance purposes
  • Populate and maintain on-line payroll and pensions systems to meet statutory and local reporting requirements
  • Act as payroll representative, during local consultations for organisational change
  • Liaise with HR Officers to ensure an integrated and efficient HR/Payroll process and to support the HR team with ad hoc projects as appropriate


What you'll need to succeed

  • Experience of payroll processes and pensions administration (E)
  • The ability to effectively organise your own workload and priorities (E)
  • Experience of a range of ICT Systems including previous experience of payroll systems (E) ITrent (D)
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build good working relations and communicate verbally and in writing at all levels across the organisation (E)
  • A customer focused approach (E)
  • Detailed knowledge of tax, national insurance and other statutory deductions (D)
  • High level of numeracy and accuracy (E)
  • Ability to communicate with outside bodies such as inland revenue and department of work and pensions (E)
  • Ability to keep calm and focused under pressure (E)
  • Able to challenge the norm and find ways to improve (E)
  • Evidence of continuous learning (E)
  • Qualified or keen to study for a Payroll qualification (D)
