Oxford Direct Services (ODS) is wholly-owned by Oxford City Council. ODS is made up of two companies, ODS Limited and ODS Trading Limited
ODS Limited serves the community’s needs by providing services on behalf of the Council to more than 152,000 residents of Oxford. Our purpose here is to deliver high quality, value for money public services and by maximising efficiency, our track record of generating an annual surplus provides crucial funding for investment into other public services - like a social enterprise. In this way, we can offset the cuts in Government grants and provide competitively priced, consumer-focused and environmentally responsible services to all.
ODS Trading Limited is an entirely commercial entity, trading not with the Council but exclusively with other businesses, and similarly to ODS Limited we generate profit here for our Shareholder to fund other public services. Across these two businesses, ODS has returned more than £40m in value since inception in 2018.
We’re committed to efficient and environmentally responsible services for all. And, with a city population of 152,000, 46,000 commuters and an estimated 9.5 million visitors a year, it’s important that we continue to task reliable, experienced, local work forces with the job.
With a workforce of over 500, we deliver a huge range of vital services on behalf of Oxford City Council, but we also manage numerous commercial contracts across the region with businesses, landlords, charities, hospitals and education establishments. Our services include waste and recycling, parks and open spaces, housing repairs, highways maintenance, pest control and MOT testing – and more besides! We have to be efficient, commercial and high quality, but we also have a strong belief in social value. As mentioned, our profits go back into the public sector – creating a virtuous circle and strengthening the communities we work in.
