Hays is currently running an exciting campaign for the Government Legal Department on an exclusive basis, the details of which are outlined on the home page of our dedicated campaign website.
The GLD is looking to recruit a number of Senior (Grade 6) Lawyers on fixed-term appointments or on a temporary basis, up to 2 years.
You should be a Solicitor, Barrister or Chartered Legal Executive, qualified to practice in England and Wales, though applications from lawyers qualified in other jurisdictions will also be considered. The ideal candidate is likely to have around 10 years PQE, but other experience levels will be considered.
This opportunity is open to Senior Lawyers with relevant specialist expertise in at least one of the following fields:
- Legislative drafting, especially secondary legislation
- Bill or planning experience
- Commercial experience, including commercial contracts, public procurement
- Rail franchising
- Financial services law
- International trade law
- Agricultural law, fisheries law or food law
- Environmental law
- Employment law
- Local government law, especially housing and local government finance
- Pensions – private pensions and/or public sector schemes
- Media law
- Telecoms and broadband
- Specific experience in company law, insolvency law, competition / state aid
- Experience of working for the Bank of England, FCA, HMRC
- Knowledge of tax law, financial law.
- WTO experience, trade remedies, negotiation of Free-Trade Agreements

GLD is able to offer between £64,000 and £75,200 per annum for these roles – a figure will be arrived at following an assessment of skills and experience.
