An insight to Croydon
One of London’s most diverse boroughs, Croydon is a place full of energy, opportunity and ambition. Its communities, culture and ideas help create a borough with a strong identity and a bright future.
Excellent transport links make it easier to get around. Both East and West Croydon stations provide direct connection to central London in around 15 minutes, while the tram, bus and rail networks connect communities across south London and beyond. Gatwick airport and Brighton are also within easy reach.
Creativity is at the heart of life here. As London’s Borough of Culture 2023, the borough showcased the talent, diversity and community spirit that continue to shape it today. The BRIT School has helped launch the careers of stars including Adele, Tom Holland and Katie Meula, while local talent such as Stormzy continue to champion his hometown.
From the performances and events hosted at Fairfield Halls to the food, music and independent business that make BoxPark Croydon a destination in its own right, creativity can be seen across the borough. Throughout the year colourful festivals and events such as; Croydon PrideFest, the Mela, and the Ends Festival bring different communities together.
The borough has become one of London’s most recognisable filming locations, featuring in productions such as The Crown, Black Mirror, The Da Vinci Code, Jason Bourne and The Dark Knight Rises. Earning the nickname “CRO-llywood”, the Council aims to work with partners to support opportunities in growing film, television and creative industries.
Local pride runs deep. Home to Crystal Palace FC, the borough has shared in the excitement of the club’s FA Cup and UEFA Conference League victories, helping put south London firmly in the national spotlight.
A new phase of growth and regeneration is underway. Through the growth plan and town centre vision, residents, businesses and partners are helping shape the future of the borough, supporting investments, skills and economic growth.
Alongside its modern skyline sits a rich history from the historic Surrey Street Market and Whitgift Almshouses to listed buildings and conservation areas, Croydon blends heritage with growth and change. It is also one of London’s greenest boroughs, with more than 120 parks and green spaces.
Whether you’re drawn in by the culture, diversity, green spaces, strong communities or exciting plans for the future, Croydon is a borough where you can make a real impact while building your career.
