About Chilwell Croft Primary School

Chilwell Croft Primary School is a two-form entry Primary School in Birmingham serving the inner-city communities of Aston and Newtown.

They are a happy and vibrant school, which provides children with an innovative, relevant, and engaging curriculum. This enables their children to be curious, independent and brave learners that are not afraid to take risks. The staff feel privileged to serve such a strong and diverse community and they see the partnership they have with their parents as crucial to both the academic and personal success of each child.

Although rated as a GOOD school by OFSTED in January 2019, Chilwell Croft Academy’s new Senior Leadership Team are always striving for ways to improve. They take real pride in the steps they have taken and will continue to take as a school, to ensure that every child is given an outstanding education and a real chance to achieve their full potential.

During the recent COVID-19 pandemic, the staff team showed their exceptional character and resilience, providing a source of strength to the children and families in the community. During this time, they successfully applied for over £30,000 worth of resilience funding for their families, provided a regular food bank within the school for their families and had over 50,000 interactions on line with their children (partly due to the 100 + laptops they handed out), all whilst providing an education in school for their most vulnerable children.,

They appreciate the many challenges that lie ahead, in part due to the educational gaps caused by the recent pandemic, but also to drive the school forward and become an outstanding provider of education. Highest on their list of school priorities is improving reading and through an integrated approach across phonics, reading lessons and home reading, they have already put actions in place to try and close the gaps they expect to experience from September onwards.

They are a year into the development of their topic curriculum (through the support of Cornerstones planning), which incorporates a host of subjects delivered across afternoons in engaging, inspiring and relevant half- term projects. Their EYFS department, despite being judged as Requires Improvement at the most recent OFSTED inspection, has made huge strides since this judgement including development of both the indoor and outdoor environment, the consistency within teaching and assessment and the leadership that the new EYFS lead has provided.
