Bank of England are hiring a Shift Charge Maintenance Engineer to join their in-house team at their London HQ.

The property team’s mission is to maintain, enhance and protect the Bank’s environment and to provide excellent services for the Bank staff. The team ensure that the infrastructures required to support the Bank’s critical functions are maintained and enhanced.

Your new role

As Shift Charge Maintenance Engineer you will be part of a team of six providing 24/7/365 cover, ensuring the Bank’s critical infrastructure is always operational. You will be part of the Operations and Maintenance (O&M) team, which collectively, alongside the reactive team, is responsible for the continued safe functioning of the London premises, which consists of grade I listed Threadneedle Street and 20 Moorgate.

This role provides operational management of critical systems within our London buildings, acts as a first responder to critical alarms, acts as an authorised Person, coordinates the exercising of emergency operating procedures, and, in the event of incidents, will manage the technical response and recovery.

  • Operational oversight of critical building services in a grade I listed building.
  • Implement safe systems of work through the approval and issue of permits to external contractors.
  • Completing assigned statutory and maintenance tasks per SLAs.
  • Dealing with incidents and using skill and experience to coordinate the recovery safely reporting to the senior SCE and senior management in a timely manner.
  • Continuous improvement activities will include operations, quality assurance and energy optimisation.
  • Monitoring the BMS and other monitoring systems to ensure the plant operates correctly and instigating remediation when not.

What you'll need to succeed

To succeed in this role as Shift Charge Engineer you will require a proven track record in the operational management of critical infrastructure. You will require experience in emergency responses to critical alarms and acting as an authorised person. You will also require:

  • HNC/HND or equivalent in building services discipline or level 3 technical qualification with significant experience.
  • Experience of using Computer Aided Facilities Management (CAFM)
  • Exposure to a full range of reactive and planned maintenance regimes.
  • An excellent understanding of building services
  • In-depth knowledge of statutory compliance.
  • Proven ability to learn and apply systems and plant operating instructions to a diagnostic level.
  • Ability to work under pressure to resolve complex engineering faults and emergencies.
  • Ability to read and understand complicated building services drawings.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to relate with stakeholders and produce detailed written reports.
  • Experience in operating and maintaining building services within a heritage building is desirable.
  • Experience of working ina data centre is desirable.
  • Previous experience as a HV/LV authorised person is desirable.
  • Industry-recognised H&S qualification is desirable.
