About The Avenue Centre for Education

The Avenue Centre for Education (ACE) is a KS3 and 4 Pupil Referral Unit supporting students in Luton.

ACE is committed to education and personal development based on understanding relationships. The relationships with ourselves, with others, with school, with learning, with well-being, with the path to adulthood. We integrate into this the OECD Skills for Success programme which we know will empower the young people who are referred to ACE to achieve fulfilling and rewarding lifes.

We work with students who have been permanently excluded from mainstream school, who are at risk of permanent exclusion or who are new to Luton and cannot be placed on the role of a mainstream school due to previously existing behaviour challenges.

We work with students in KS3 and KS4 with 2 intents;

  • Successfully achieve, and sustain a return to mainstream (our Route Mainstream)
  • Successfully achieve and sustain a post 16 destination of choice (our Route 19)

At ACE we work with families, partner schools and external professionals to provide a curriculum which identifies and addresses areas of need to support a student’s journey back to mainstream school or to a post 16 destination.

Through PACE (our specialist pre-assessment centre) specific advice and guidance is developed, through a range of focussed assessments, to support the delivery of a student’s curriculum.

Our work with our students is managed through our Contract of Education which secures the provision map for individual student in agreement with students, their families and external partners.

The ACE model has been developed to include closely managed partnership work with external alternative provisions to ensure we can meet the needs of individual students whilst also maintaining our capacity to work with all of the students that need our support.

In addition to the work we do at ACE on our Cutenhoe Road site, we have teams of specialist outreach teams working alongside mainstream school, alternative provisions and external professionals. In addition, we have a range of traded services which are commissioned by mainstream schools to support students at risk of permanent exclusion.

ACE provides our students with learning opportunities across academic, vocational, creative, SEMP and personal development curriculums with additional and focused interventions through our work close working relationships with external professionals.

Through the connectivity of our operational areas and our focus on individual students at ACE we provide a learning environment that allows students to rebuild their education and successfully return to, and sustain, a place in mainstream or a achieve a post 16 destination of choice.
