Welcome from the Headteacher

I am delighted to be Headteacher at Wren Spinney Community Special School, on behalf of Creating Tomorrow Multi Academy Trust

Thank you for taking the time to look at our website — we hope you find it useful. Wren Spinney School primarily serves the welcoming community of Kettering and the surrounding areas in Northamptonshire. We are a coeducational Secondary school for pupils with cognition and learning difficulties.

Staff, Governors, parents, carers and the local community are all partners in helping our young people to access an education that is focused on improving independence and life chances. Having fun, being safe and feeling happy are key to everything we do.

At Wren Spinney, we aim to provide a developmental, relevant life skills curriculum, tailored to meet individual needs of all of its students based on Preparation for Adulthood. Each stage of the curriculum focuses on preparing our students for the next stage, developing key skills while actively promoting fundamental British Values and the core values of our school.

We are committed to providing the best learning opportunities, including access to community resources and learning programmes that link classroom learning to life skills. We believe all children learn best from first-hand experiences. Students at Wren Spinney are grouped into one of three specialist provisions:

  • Sensory

  • Structured

  • Collaborative

If you have any questions regarding the school and what we do, or would like to arrange a visit, we would be delighted to welcome you.

Class Teacher

My brother first attended Wren Spinney School over 30yrs ago and it was then that I joined the Wren Spinney Family. I started working in the school in 2000 as a Teaching Assistant and it was this experience that inspired me to train to teach. I gained a BA honours in Learning & Teaching with UoN and PGCE with University of Bedfordshire. With the amazing support of SLT and a mentor from the school I was able to gain teacher status. I have since taught in the Sensory and Structured Provision. I have had the opportunity to broaden my professional experience with excellent CPD, as have all staff, whether they are teaching, or non-teaching and we share our best practice and support each other in our training and learning needs. Being part of a staff team at the school who are dedicated and inspirational and who help the students to aspire to be the best version of their individual self is an honour.

"I first joined Wren Spinney in April 2021 as a level 2 Teaching Assistant. I have had opportunities working in different classes across the school supporting students with a range of SEND. As my experience and skills developed with the support of the school, I applied for a Level 3 position and I absolutely love my new role and the responsibilities it brings. Ideas are valued and shared around the school. Wren has a family feel to it which I felt from my first day. Staff are welcoming and supportive throughout the school. There are always opportunities to develop skills further the school runs continuing CPD training to help build on professional development."
