Over the past 12 months, we have made significant progress. The council has cleared a substantial financial reporting backlog by producing multiple years of statutory accounts, achieved multi-million-pound savings, strengthened financial governance, and successfully set a legal, balanced budget for 2025/26, with exceptional financial support from government. The next phase focuses on rationalising the council’s assets, further strengthening governance, and building long-term financial capability and culture.

You will be joining a newly empowered Finance team that is at the heart of the council’s transformation. With significant investment in systems, skills, and processes, we are building a modern, professional finance function that makes a real impact and can help prepare the council for local government reorganisation in 2027, which itself is expected to bring further opportunities for high-calibre finance staff.
