We need exceptional, innovative finance professionals to play their part in leading the Council into the next phase of the Borough’s transformation.
As a member of the Finance Team, you will play a key part in delivering the financial strategy of the Council to ensure long term financial sustainability. Being part of the team helping to develop the Council’s strategic financial framework, linking the Wirral Plan, the medium-term financial plan and service plans together to deliver a financially viable model of service delivery for the Council.
Wirral’s Finance Team is driving for continuous improvement to ensure it is one of the best finance functions in local government and it wants colleagues to be part of this. There are several exciting roles within the finance function where the team is looking for individuals to bring their experience and fast thinking, can-do attitude to an already highly performing finance team.

As an employer, we are committed to creating a positive, supportive environment for all our staff. We offer an outstanding range of benefits including competitive salaries, family-friendly employment initiatives and a generous annual leave entitlement.
Leave – as part of this years pay package, the leave was increased by 1 day, so for 2023/24 we now have 28 days raising to 33 after 5 years continuous service
We have an excellent occupational health service to protect and support the health and welfare of our staff within their roles at the council. The service supports line managers and employees by providing advice, guidance and support in relation to employee fitness and suitability, wellbeing linked to illness or health conditions and supporting return to work.
Flexible working - the council also operates a flexi time scheme – a system which allows employees to work their hours in a flexible manner (within limits) and take flexi leave (4 x ½ days or 2 full days in a 4 week period), again this is a real incentive for employees which I would say is not captured
Use of the council's leisure centres is offered at a discounted rate for all Wirral Council employees. This includes access to six swimming pools and seven fitness suites across the borough
Employees have the opportunity to take out an interest free loan to purchase a Motorcycle or pedal cycle.
Loans are available to staff who travel on the Wirral using public transport.

The Council values the importance of volunteering within the community. To support this employees can take up to 2 days a year to volunteer their help, time and support to make a difference to their local community. Volunteering promotes the development of skills, knowledge, experience and resources and adds personal value to fulfilling activities both for the community and employees.
This is an independently managed free and confidential service for employees and their families which is available 24hrs a day/7days a week. The programme provides expert advice and counselling in areas such as finances, family and personal problems, work issues, health-related problems, childcare and consumer rights.
