What would my holiday entitlement be?

The University’s holiday year runs from 1 January to 31 December. In each holiday year, the basic holiday entitlement is 30 days for business professional staff, 35 days for academic staff, plus Public and Bank holidays. Please note that some campuses close down between Christmas and New Year and in this instance, you are required to book annual leave over this period.

Do you have a pension scheme I could join?

The University operates a Group Personal Pension Plan with Aviva which is compliant with statutory requirements for automatically enrolling eligible employees. You will be assessed for automatic enrolment after 3 months employment and eligible employees will be contacted by Aviva with details of the automatic enrolment process.

Does the University offer life assurance?

The University currently provides a non-contributory life assurance scheme to all its permanent and fixed term employees. This means that you are entitled to Death in Service benefit which is equal to four times your basic salary (if you contribute 4% or more of your salary into the pension scheme then this increases to eight times your salary).

What about healthcare? Is there a scheme I can join?

Yes there is. Our private medical insurance scheme is currently provided by AXA PPP Healthcare and you can sign up within one month of joining the University. This is an optional benefit which, if taken up, is treated as a taxable benefit by the HM Revenue & Customs. Enhancement to cover for family members is also possible, but is at your expense.

What if I am off sick? Is there a scheme that covers this?

Yes – the University has an occupational sick pay scheme, and entitlement increases with your length of service.

What other benefits are available to me?

We offer a number of benefits which are not contractual and these are designed to ensure that you receive the best possible support. These include:

  • Eyecare costs – The University will pay up to £20 towards the cost of an eye test which should be claimed by the usual expense claim method.
  • Season ticket loans – the University can provide interest free loans specifically for season rail tickets and repayments will be spread out over a period of up to 12 months.
  • Employee Assistance Program (EAP) – provided to all employees as soon as they start at the University, our EAP is always ready to help with practical solutions, information, and support. It is easy to access and is completely confidential. It’s available at no cost to you and your immediate family members, 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year.
  • Cycle to work scheme – provided by Halfords, the Cycle 2 Work scheme enables you to purchase a brand new bike and safety accessories up to the value of £1,000 tax free. The repayments will then be deducted from your salary, via a salary sacrifice arrangement, over a period of 12 months.
