Thank you for your interest in the position of Headteacher at the Bishop of Hereford’s Bluecoat School. We hope the information provided will be helpful in completing the application process.

We are seeking to appoint an experienced leader who demonstrates creativity, enthusiasm, and a desire to make a real difference to our students. At Bishop’s we aim to provide each student with opportunities and values to flourish academically and socially. As a VA Church of England school, we are keen to highlight our Christian distinctiveness and our vision is encompassed in the words of Jesus when he said, “I have come that they may have life, life in all its fullness.” We value our reputation as a happy, caring community where students are encouraged to take responsibility for their own learning and development.

In July 2021 Bishop’s School was rated “Good” by Ofsted. The Ofsted report was exceptionally positive and reflected the rapid improvement achieved by the school since the previous inspection. The inspectors commented that “Senior leaders and governors are passionate about giving pupils the best education and care possible.” We do, however, recognise that there is still room for improvement, whilst believing that our existing strengths will provide a platform for the new Headteacher to lead us to an even more successful future.

Our Headteacher, Martin Henton retires in August 2024, after over 20 years of distinguished service to the school, five of which have been as the Headteacher. Excellent progress has been achieved in those last 5 years and despite the challenges we all faced through COVID, we believe that strong foundations have been laid for the next incumbent to build on.

The role provides an opportunity to be challenged, stretch professional vision, ambition, and goal setting, and provide the successful candidate the opportunity to be an outstanding leader in a beautiful part of the country.
