Teaching Careers with

St. Michael's Catholic School

in High Wycombe

About us

As a Catholic School we understand the importance of being a learning community that lives its life according to the teachings of Christ. Put it to practice it means that we take Jesus’ injunction to love our neighbour seriously, we are called to ‘serve and not to be served’ and we strive for excellence so that we may be better able to contribute to the welfare of others and ourselves in the wider community. Living in the light of the Gospel is the basis of the life and work of St Michael’s.

Faith

As a workshipping community St Michael’s lives its Mission, through its witness, care and expectation of excellence. All members are valued and encouraged to grow together. Love of God and the examples of Christ are at the forefront of our polices and practice.

“Pupils’ spiritual, moral, social and cultural development is outstanding.” OFSTED

Encouragement and Care

Every member of our learning family is recognised as unique, and equally worthy of praise and support. All pupils are encouraged to achieve the best they can through the mentoring and support of their teachers. Regular meetings with parents and pupils ensure that this process is supportive as well as challenging.

It is important that all children feel safe and that they are cared for. By creating a caring environment we know that children are more likely to thrive and flourish both as children and as learners. Our school has an excellent record for keeping pupils safe and we take this duty of care seriously for all our pupils.

“Good, courteous behaviour in lessons and around the school site ensures that pupils feel safe and helps them to concentrate on learning.” OFSTED

Learning

Learning at St Michael’s is a journey of discovery and growth that is brought to life with innovative teaching and imaginative use of resources. Our curriculum is well balanced and includes a range of learning opportunities to suit the needs of every pupil.  We aim to deliver lessons that are stimulating and interactive, encouraging our pupils over time to become independent learners.

Potential

The curriculum is balanced in that arts, science, aesthetic and practical subjects are studied throughout so each pupil has the opportunity to develop his or her potential to the full.

“The clear vision and highly effective leadership have successfully ensured that the whole school community is focused on continuous improvement.” OFSTED

Opportunity & Support

“A strong ethos of support and mutual respect permeates the school community.” OFSTED

St Michael’s prides itself on the unique opportunities and support it provides for all pupils. Our aim is to remove barriers to learning, to enable all pupils to access the whole curriculum and we are always looking for ways to improve and build on what we have done in the past.

Involvement

“A wide range of extra-curricular and enrichment activities promote pupils’ enjoyment of school and their active and healthy lifestyles.” OFSTED

Achievement

Within a Christian environment we believe that all pupils should be encouraged to achieve the maximum according to their potential. Our Annual Awards Evening celebrates effort, commitment and service, as well as achievement.

“The school is true to its mission and ethos while being firmly focused on raising achievement.” OFSTED

Growth and Confidence

Today’s young people live in an exciting and increasingly scientific and technological world. It is important that they are confident in their ability to use scientific, mathematical and technological skills. This is why we became a Specialist Science College with the aim  of trying to develop the potential of every pupil, so the they are able to become fulfilled and responsibly citizens, ready to meet the challenges of the 21st Century.

Sixth Form

The Sixth Form is a key part of our school community. All students are expected to offer some service to the community, supporting lower school lessons, assisting within the paired reading scheme or by taking part in some other way to enhance what we can offer to others.

We encourage all students to do the best that is possible. For a majority of our students, this will mean going onto University for the course of their choice. Whilst we are delighted to have students who take up a university place, all students are valued whatever their destination.
