REWARDS MAIN

Our rewards and benefits

As a member of staff at Staffordshire University you can enjoy an extensive range of benefits and support

Incremental Pay Scales

The majority of roles at Staffordshire University are attached to our pay grades and you will enjoy the benefit of annual progression through the scale by receiving an increment on 1 August, together with any agreed cost of living pay increases

Annual leave

Staffordshire University offers a generous annual leave entitlement. Employees working a five-day week are entitled to 32 days rising to 37 days dependent on the grade of the post, together with 11 bank holidays and discretionary days. That means at least 40 paid leave days a year which is pretty difficult to match these days.

Pension schemes

We know that one of the most important ways we can help you during your working life is with retirement planning. At Staffordshire we offer either the Local Government Pension Scheme (www.staffspf.org.uk) which is a contributory Final Salary Pension Scheme. The University provides a generous rate of contribution in addition to your own with guaranteed retirement benefits.

Each Scheme provides a full range of benefits for its members and their families including the following:

  • A guaranteed, inflation-proofed pension
  • The option to convert part of the pension to a tax free lump sum
  • Early payment of benefits, possibly enhanced, if you have to retire early on grounds of permanent ill health
  • A death grant if you die in service
  • A survivor’s pension
Trade Union Membership

Staffordshire University is proud to work in partnership with two trade unions: The University and College Union (UCU) and UNISON. Both the UCU and UNISON are there to provide advice, guidance and support on a range of employment-related matters. Membership of either union is voluntary.

Family leave Policies

Depending on your circumstances you may be entitled to Maternity, Paternity, Adoption and Surrogacy, Parental and Shared Parental Leave provisions. Staffordshire University offers enhanced benefits over and above the statutory provisions.

Employee Assistance Programme

As a member of Staffordshire University you will enjoy the benefits of our Employee Assistance provider, Right Management. They provide information, advice and support from qualified experts, via an easily accessible, confidential, independent and free of charge helpline, giving you unlimited access to general information, support and advice on a range of issues - 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Discounted travel by rail or bus

The University offers a number of options to assist with the cost of travel to work as part of its Sustainable Travel initiative, including discount tickets and interest-free loans. The local railway station in Stoke on Trent is just on the doorstep of the University so access to the Campus could not be easier.
