Welcome to Sir Jonathan North Community College

Sir Jonathan North Community College is a large and successful 11-16 girls’ school based in Leicester. In 2013 we were graded as an Ofsted Outstanding School and were designated as a National Support School in March 2016. The College achieved recognition as being ‘world class’ when we were awarded the World Class Schools Quality Mark in December 2016.

With a reputation for innovation and success, Sir Jonathan North is an inclusive, friendly and diverse community. In 2013, the College benefited from a £9 million partial re-build as part of the national Building Schools for the Future programme and now has high quality purpose built facilities for each curriculum area.

The College has been oversubscribed for many years and has a unique identity and ethos, with an exceptionally diverse student body in a city girls' comprehensive setting. We believe that our current success is based on staff initiative, effort and teamwork. Our students were commended by Ofsted for the quality of their response and the harmonious atmosphere to which they contribute.

The College serves a culturally and socially diverse area to the south of Leicester City and is unique as the only girls’ state school in Leicester and Leicestershire. The College is consistently over-subscribed; there are currently 1200 students on roll with approximately 75 teaching staff and 90 part-time and full-time support staff.

Students achieve highly and examination results have been consistently good for many years. Students of all abilities achieve well including students with special educational needs. The College aims to improve these results, with the awareness that students need support and guidance in managing the pressures of competition and challenge. Students are encouraged to be ambitious in their personal and academic goals.

Specialist status has inspired teaching at a higher level with students receiving an enhanced range of educational and enrichment experiences. The College has superb facilities for digital art which allows students to develop their skills in the use of technology in art. The Applied Learning specialism has allowed the College to develop a more flexible personalised curriculum to meet individual needs and to establish clear 14 – 19 progression pathways for students.
