Welcome

On behalf of the students, staff and governors of Ruskin High School I would like to thank you for your interest in our school. It is a very special place and we are justly proud of it. We know with the right person leading it the school can only get better.

Ruskin High School often has more applications than places available. It is the only non-denominational High School in Crewe which is rated “Good” by Ofsted. Ofsted judged the school to be good in June 2015 and in March 2019. We are seeking a candidate who can build on this solid base by providing the leadership and inspiration to make the school “Outstanding”.

We serve students from challenging backgrounds from one of the most deprived wards in Crewe in the top 10% for deprivation nationally. Our intake has a significant proportion of mixed cultural and ethnic heritages, including Bangladeshi and Eastern European. There are more than 20 first languages in the school. The school and the governing body welcome the diversity of the student body and the opportunities and the challenges it provides.

The teaching staff and support staff are dedicated, knowledgeable and hardworking. They win the confidence of students and this promotes high standards of behaviour and achievement. The governing body is looking for an outstanding leader to continue the school's journey and to maintain the highest standards of behaviour and attainment. If you are interested, come and visit. Talk to us and find out what we are about and what we want to be in the future. Contact Martin Blair at Hays Leadership on 07736791138 or at martin.blair@hays.com to arrange an appointment or discuss making an application.

I look forward to hearing from you and thank you for your interest in Ruskin High School.

John Rhodes,
Chair of Governors

About us

About us

Ruskin Community High School is an inclusive, friendly and ambitious 11-16 comprehensive school in Crewe. The school is highly regarded within its local community, and beyond, and is oversubscribed with a growing roll which is currently at 730.

The school serves a vibrant and diverse community with a significant proportion of mixed cultural and ethnic heritages with more than 20 first languages spoken. It is also in one of the most deprived wards in Crewe and in the top 10% for deprivation nationally.

Results from 2016 to 2019 demonstrate that students make good progress to reach broadly average standards in English and particularly mathematics from starting points that are lower than average. The school was graded as Good in 2019 and there have been sustained improvements in the quality of teaching over time since then; improvements which are monitored at regular intervals. Teachers set high expectations, provide clear explanations, give clear feedback for improvement and, increasingly, facilitate time for the feedback to be acted on. Students say they feel safe in school, find lessons enjoyable and teachers supportive.
