A Career at RHS

Image 10Our school’s success is due to our excellent staff. The governors and leadership team encourage and support staff development in a number of different ways.

  • We provide a full induction programme for all staff (including ECTs)
  • We ensure that staff have the opportunity to observe good practice and to learn from others.
  • We create opportunities for staff to acquire new skills e.g. by leading an initiative.
  • We provide financial assistance to staff studying for masters degrees or other certificated courses and cover so that staff can attend course sessions being run in school time.

General Information

Image 6Rugby High School is an Academy Trust in Warwickshire, providing secondary education to the young people of Rugby and the surrounding area. The school has up to 900 pupils and offers a broad curriculum to young women in the main school and a co-educational sixth form. The head teacher is Mr Mark Grady who was appointed in 2019.

In our Sixth Form nearly half of our students join us from a wide range of other schools. Nearly all of our students currently go on to higher education. In 20124 46% of our students took up places at Russell Group universities. More than half of those students heading to university chose to apply for a STEM course.

When Ofsted visited us in November 2022, inspectors commented that “Leaders, staff and pupils embody the school vision that, ‘At Rugby High School we set heights in our heart’. Staff set high standards for pupils’ behaviour. They expect pupils to work with determination and purpose. Pupils take up the challenge with vigour and gusto. They are dedicated and committed to their learning and to the school. Pupils’ behaviour is exemplary. They work alongside teachers who want the very best for every pupil.”

We want our students to be able to work collaboratively with others, to be independent learners and thinkers with the confidence to embrace new challenges and to be well equipped for the life that awaits them beyond the school gates.

image 9Our staff develop teaching and learning in ‘The RHS Way’, with the aims of fostering curiosity, providing challenge and developing creativity. We have a monthly Teaching and Learning Focus Group which all staff are invited to attend as an informal discussion group. We offer a comprehensive program of CPD throughout the year.

We also want the members of our school community to be healthy and happy. Our school chef and her team provide a range of delicious meals and snacks cooked from fresh ingredients, ensuring that everyone who wants one can have a hot snack at break-time and a hot meal at lunchtime.

Our school counsellor, SENCo, and pastoral staff are all part of a team which provides a comprehensive range of support services to students. It is sometimes assumed that because RHS is a grammar school that none of our students has special educational needs which is not the case and we keep an up-to-date register of our students’ needs, offering appropriate and ongoing support.

Students and staff are encouraged to share their interests and enthusiasms. By the end of this academic year staff will have taken students to countries including Iceland, France, Wales, Greece, Dorset, Italy and Switzerland on residential visits and to dozens of other destinations for day trips. Our students raise a huge amount of money for charity, and also organise a broad range of activities from cake sales and Pink Day to preloved clothing sales, the teacher obstacle course and the Winter Fayre. We also celebrate our annual book character fancy dress day, Cultural Diversity Day, Black History month and Movember to name but a few events. New ideas are always welcome.
