For more than 60 years, the UK has been accumulating radioactive waste that is currently stored safely at over 30 sites around the country. Radioactive Waste Management Limited (RWM) is the company created by the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA) to deliver the Geological Disposal Facility (GDF) for this, and future, higher activity radioactive waste.
RWM is increasing its headcount to meet the exciting programme challenges ahead and this procurement is for new permanent posts in the Commercial team.

How would you describe the culture at RWM?
RWM’s culture is best summarised by our Values (Link). Importantly, these values form a part of how performance is managed and assessed, which in turn forms part of how the personal performance element of everyone’s bonus is calculated. In this way, RWM explicitly incentivises how we work according to these values as well as just what we achieve so these really mean something at RWM.
RWM’s culture is evolving as our Programme proceeds to the next phase of our work, so we’re working hard to get better at planning work further in advance. This is something the Commercial team is instrumental in facilitating, through regular ‘commercial pipeline reviews’ to plan procurements further in advance (we’re currently looking at the next 3 years) and in more sophisticated detail, in order to deliver better outcomes. AS our programme evolves, we need to continue our culture of collaboration – with our colleagues, clients, suppliers and grant recipients – while balancing this with the need for more sophisticated, mature and rigorous management of how we deliver our programme. Examples include everything from contract management to how we plan for what funding we need, to how we assess the right delivery model for services we need to deliver.
There’s a genuine sense of community, diversity and inclusion at RWM too. For example, there’s a wide range of cheap and accessible sports and social clubs for the wide range of organisations on the Harwell campus. I I play tennis at the campus tennis club and play for RWM’s team in the (surprisingly competitive and very fun) summer lunchtime rounders league and for a cross-organisation 6-a-side football team (which is enthusiastic but very amateur) at lunchtimes in the winter. RWM genuinely and actively takes steps to encourage diversity and inclusion in all guises and strives to improve how we do what we do, so you’ll enjoy the culture here if you enjoy improving the way things work, take pride in your work and like to have a bit of fun too.
What attracted you to RWM
I think its fair to say that over the last 5 years I’d always fancied jumping across the fence from a Tier 1 Major Infrastructure Contractor to being part of the ‘Client organisation.
Why RWM – When I was first approached I’d never heard of RWM – I did some research and was amazed at the scale and prospect of working on a major infrastructure programme beyond Rail, Roads, Utilities and Buildings.
The interview process was good, all teams interviews, the discussions were positive and welcoming and I felt that my experience and knowledge of major programme strategic overview and knowledge would be a good fit for a relatively new venture that is developing at speed.
So far the professionalism, one team approach is refreshing and it feels right along with the flexible working and balanced approach
