Outwood Academy Ripon

Outwood Academy Ripon is a highly regarded and ambitious 11-16 community school. Ripon is a beautiful cathedral city with a UNESCO World Heritage Site encompassing the magnificent Studley Royal Park, including the well-preserved Cistercian Fountains Abbey. The city and the academy are only 10 minutes from the A1(M) and A19, making it highly accessible for commuting from North and West Yorkshire, York, Darlington, County Durham and Teesside.

OAR is a welcoming and supportive academy and has well-developed relationships with its local parishes, local councillors and neighbouring secondary and primary schools. There is a relentless determination to provide the very best education for every child. It places students at the centre of everything it does, with a focus on creating a culture of success and a positive climate for learning.

The academy was graded as Outstanding in 2022 with Ofsted commenting that “Pupils are supported by caring staff who know them well. Pupils know that learning is important and apply themselves diligently to their work. Leaders have put an ambitious curriculum in place. Teachers make sure that pupils understand and remember what they have learned over time.” Outcomes for students are strong; for example, the proportion of students achieving a grade 4 or better in English and mathematics is 80%, with 55% Grade 5 or better and a Progress 8 score of 0.23 in 2022. We are proud of the high standards that our school culture promotes and encourage all to meet these expectations.
