Outwood Academy Hemsworth

Located in Hemsworth in the cathedral city of Wakefield in West Yorkshire, near Leeds, Outwood Academy Hemsworth provides 11-18 education for 1120 students. The academy is easily accessible from Wakefield, Leeds, Doncaster and Barnsley. Its facilities provide a rich and welcoming learning environment for our young people. The site boasts a listed building alongside a purpose built sixth form centre, a brand new 3-storey building with 17 new classrooms including a drama studio, music, art and photography rooms, and a new dining hall and conference theatre. Additionally, there is a newly refurbished sports hall with fitness suite and full sized all weather pitch. The academy has well-developed relationships with the local authority, external agencies, and local secondary and primary schools. It works closely with other Outwood secondary and primary academies in Wakefield and Barnsley.

The curriculum is designed to stretch and enrich our students’ experience and the academy’s relentless focus on learning ensures everyone has the right to learn. Outcomes for students are improving; for example, the proportion of students achieving a grade 4 or better in English and mathematics is 64%, in 2022. We are keen to improve the outcomes for our students at KS4 and KS5.
