Professional development
Our Supervision and Appraisal process provides you with the opportunity to develop your skills and knowledge, not just for your current role but your next one too. Through annual appraisal meetings with your manager, you’ll set development plans for you to follow throughout the year to make sure your career is heading in the direction you want it to go. This’ll be supported by regular supervision meetings with your manager.
“I used to work in the bingo and on the taxis. I joined Nugent as agency staff 6 years ago but ended up becoming a full time member of the team. Since I’ve been here, I’ve had high quality training and supervision that’s allowed me to develop my knowledge and skills, progress my career and - most importantly - make sure our children receive nothing less than outstanding care.”
Darren - Deputy Manager at Marydale Lodge (Secure Children’s Home)
Occupational Health services
If you ever find your work is affecting your health or that your health is leading to difficulties at work, you can ask your line manager for a referral to our occupational health service. Provided by Everwell Occupational Health – the service has clinics in various locations. If you think getting to a clinic would be too difficult, the service also offers telephone consultations.
Counselling service
We all struggle from time to time, but at Nugent, you don’t have to struggle alone. We offer a confidential service provided by Compass Counselling. Whether you’re experiencing issues at work or at home, you can get the support you need, when you need it, for free.
Subsidised Physiotherapy
We aim to ensure that our services offer a safe environment for both staff and beneficiaries, however, accident s do happen. In the event that you’re injured by a beneficiary, we will reimburse 50% of the cost of any private physiotherapy you undertake, up to £150.
Make sure to let your manager know ahead of time if you’re planning to seek private treatment and claim reimbursement.
Pension scheme
A percentage of your monthly salary will be paid into your pension fund along with a contribution from Nugent. Under Government rules, all staff who are eligible for membership in the pension scheme are automatically enrolled but if you’d prefer not to be, you can opt out at any time. The contributions that both you and Nugent pay will increase over time, in line with auto-enrolment regulations.
Our pension provider is Aviva.
Teachers can join and become a member of the Teachers’ Pension Scheme.
Credit Union membership
Operated by Partners Credit Union. You can open a savings account, saving as little as £1 per month, and borrow money at reasonable rates. To save you some hassle, deductions can even be made directly from your salary - just contact the Finance to set the payments up.
Life Assurance scheme
Provided by Howden Employee Benefits, our life assurance scheme pays one year’s salary to a person of your choice in the event of your death in service. Anyone can claim this benefit free of charge when they start with Nugent.
Blue Light Card
At times like this, money can be tight for everyone, so even something like 10% of your weekly food shop can make a big difference. Because Nugent is care provider, all of our staff are eligible to apply for a Blue Light Card. This card provides discounts online as well as on the high street and can help you save on almost everything including food, clothing, insurance, toys, electronics and much, much more.
The IACCORD Awards
Every year we like to get together and celebrate the work of those people who embody our values the most. Based on each of the seven values (Integrity, Ambition, Courage, Compassion, Optimism, Respect, and Dignity), separate awards are given for managers and non-management staff and awarded based on staff nominations.
We also present awards for every 10 years of service (yes, our staff really do stick around for that long!) including a certificate and a little something extra to say thank you.
Free DBS checks
Although all staff are required to join the DBS Update service, Nugent will cover the cost of this. This will provide you with your own online DBS account. We only ask that you make sure you pay attention to any notifications sent to you by DBS, and contact your manager or HR for advice if necessary.
Free eye tests
If your role involves working at a computer for most of the day, we can give you a voucher to cover the cost of an eye test. Just ask your manager for details.
Free car parking
Although some of Nugent’s premises don’t have car parking space, most of them do. Where parking is available, there’s no parking charge for staff.
