About One IT

IT is one of the key central departments of the University supporting 20,000 students and 3,000 educators, researchers and administration professionals across four campuses.

IT at Kingston University is transforming. We are just completing a major restructure and are now building for the future. The department will comprise just under 100 highly skilled IT professionals providing Service Delivery, Infrastructure, Application and Governance functions enabling the business of the University.

People

As part of our transformation we completed a major re-organisation of IT reaching across the organisation to build a high performing and modern IT department releasing untapped skills, talent and ambition. This has created a firm foundation for the future, partnering with the ‘business’ and empowering staff as major contributors to deliver the success of the University. Building on this foundation we're recruiting a number key roles to further enhance our team of enterprising, experienced, visionary leaders and digital specialists.

Processes

Complementary to the restructure, we have defined a coherent operating model, strategic architectures, and principles of operation and processes to provide a firm and underpinning framework from which to deliver excellent services and information. We have adopted best practice frameworks of COBIT (governance), ITIL (service management), TOGAF (architecture) and PRINCE (change enablement) to create common and well understood modes of operation.

Technology

We've delivered much of our £27M infrastructure refresh programme, modernising our services, clearing the majority of our technical debt and providing a strong foundation from which to ensure our technology stack remains current, sustainable and reactive.Further to our rolling infrastructure programme our portfolio has now evolved to contain an ambitious digital transformation programme touching almost every department and core system across the organisation as we embrace the era of 'mobile first' with customer satisfaction at the heart of everything we do.
