Welcome

The Isle of Wight Council plays a critical role in supporting the lives and opportunities for our residents and businesses. The Council itself is a major contributor to the Island economy spending over £400 million a year on revenue and capital. The Island has an enviable location and attractive landscapes with more than 50% designated as areas of outstanding natural beauty. Maintaining the unique appeal of the Island as a visitor destination as well as a place for business opportunity is part of the Council's enduring vision.

The Council's finances are sound and have improved substantially over the past 5 years although the financial climate remains a challenge. There is a strong financial management culture within the Council with an excellent track record of delivering over £80 million of savings since 2011.

The Finance function also enjoys a strong partnership arrangement with Portsmouth City Council, sharing its S.151 Officer and with both Council's benefiting from a wider experience, more ideas and enhanced capacity significantly increasing our overall resilience. These arrangements have the potential for deeper integration in the future and we see this as an essential part of improving our overall level of service. Similar arrangements exist with other Councils across some Council Services and these strategic partnerships are an example of our open-mindedness and innovation.

This is a very exciting and rewarding time to be part of the finance team working in a challenging environment to deliver the Medium-Term Financial Strategy where financial resilience and innovation is recognised as a key contributor to the Council achieving its ambitious new corporate plan for the Island.

Following a recent restructure, we have two exciting senior level opportunities for positive individuals with strong technical skills to help maximise the Council's financial position and to provide essential leadership for our highly valued Corporate and Technical Finance service. These are important roles which will make a critical contribution to the Council's obligations for both public accountability and value for money.

The Isle of Wight Council offers you a supportive environment, with the opportunity to put your ideas across and to develop the service. Innovation and ambition is strongly encouraged and you’ll get a great feel for that, working in our friendly and collaborative environment.
