Overview

Hope House School is a small independent special school with big ambitions! It is a charity that educates and supports young people of all ages who have an autism spectrum disorder and associated conditions.

The aim is to provide a caring and calm environment where everyone feels valued, secure and able to learn.

The school is set in open countryside just outside Newark in Nottinghamshire, and has places for 28 pupils.  The school takes young people from the midlands areas of Rutland, Leicestershire, Lincolnshire, Nottinghamshire and Derby City.  Consultation with the school is via local authority SEND departments and caseworkers.

The school provides a bespoke individualised offer for each young person that fits with their EHCP and needs. The curriculum is aligned to the current national curriculum, with adaptations based on the needs of the young people. The older young people can access accredited qualifications such as ASDAN and Functional Skills in subjects such as English and Mathematics.  Each young person has an individual learning pathway that includes an element of choice that can be tailored to their own needs and interests, thus ensuring that they can achieve the most from their education.

Values

The school values are based upon recognition that the young people join having had difficult journeys and their education experiences have not always been positive ones.

Therefore, the aim is to transform young people's experiences of education by taking a pro-active approach to predicting and addressing any barriers to learning. This means a curriculum tailored to the needs of the young people and an individualised, therapeutic approach which integrates Speech and Language Therapy, Occupational Therapy and Educational Psychology. Ultimately, Hope House School wants to be the enabler of the young people to confidently take up their place within society.

Ethos

The school adopts a culture of integrity, mutual respect, and kindness, valuing the individual at all times. This is reflected by ensuring the voice of the young people is heard through PRIDE (Peace, Respect, Independence, Determination and Equality) Force. The school works closely as a community with families and professionals, recognising that each brings their own area of expertise to support the students to become secure and independent members of society.
