Sarah Welsh

Senior Deputy Headteacher

I started my teaching career at Hanson 22 years ago as an NQT. Back then Hanson was the school of choice in Bradford and held SSAT Technology College Status. As a Design and Technology Teacher I felt lucky and embraced every opportunity.

During my time at Hanson I have held a number of roles as Head of Department, Head of Faculty, Lead Practitioner, Assistant Head and Deputy Headteacher. I have taught across a range of subjects, abilities and all Key Stages. I have always been encouraged, felt supported personally and professionally and worked with the most fantastic people. The reason I have stayed at Hanson for the whole of my career is clear – I have been offered every opportunity, our staff and students are amazing and I am a passionate believer that every child deserves a first class education regardless of their postcode.

Our students are full of personality and it is a true mixed comprehensive. No two classes or days are the same and it is never dull! Our pupils give you instant feedback, they are honest and if you care they demonstrate great loyalty. We have a hugely talented and committed team - who always put the students first. Hanson firmly believes in developing its staff and promoting from within. Like me many of the staff have been here a long time. Everyone is part of ‘Team Hanson’ and under strong leadership, we have worked incredibly hard (despite many of the challenges that Hanson has faced) to improve our school - because our students deserve the best education, experiences and opportunities.

I still love coming to school everyday and I love the challenge, the excitement and difference we make. So, if you want a challenge that demands talent and offers huge rewards then Hanson is the place for you. We look forward to meeting you.

Danny Yates

Professional Mentor

I have been working at Hanson School for 11 years. I started in 2009 as an NQT and qualified as a PE Teacher. During my time at Hanson I have had the opportunity to develop my leadership skills in the areas of Teaching and Learning and Pastoral. One of my responsibilities whilst working in T&L was to support our NQTs, staff who are new to the school and those who are new to teaching.

In October 2019 I was appointed to the role of Professional Mentor for our NQT`s, ITT`s and new staff on a full-time basis. It is my responsibility to work closely with our external ITT providers to ensure that the trainees that are placed with us at Hanson and new staff that join us are well supported throughout the duration of their placement with us.

I am also responsible for supporting our NQT`s to ensure that they are supported throughout their NQT year and beyond. I ensure that the appropriate mentor is allocated and a supportive CPD schedule is put in place to further enhance their teaching practice.

Without the support of SLT and the rest of the staff here at Hanson we would not be as effective in the provision we offer for our NQT`s and ITT`s. The level of support offered both personally and professionally at Hanson School is outstanding.

Jo Crossley

Director Of English and Communication

I joined Hanson as a Teach First participant in 2016. Previously, I worked as a family law Barrister based in Leeds. The transition from courtroom to classroom was not always easy but the support I received from my colleagues at Hanson was invaluable, which is why I have stayed here and look forward to many more years as part of the Hanson team.

I am very proud to be an English teacher at a truly comprehensive secondary school – where all can find their way to achieve and succeed in life. As a subject, English is challenging and rewarding. As English teachers, we are helping young people to find their voice so that they can take their place in the world and make themselves heard. As a department, we are collaboratively developing an exciting and challenging curriculum, with a diverse range of texts, designed to engage and inspire our young people.

I joined Hanson School 4 years ago and have since been a part of Hanson’s successful journey and Team Hanson. I started as a classroom teacher of Social Science and Religious Studies and since then progressed to becoming the deputy in the department and my current role as Curriculum Leader of Social Science.

The reasons I have stayed here at the peak of my career are many and varied, however the main one is evidently the students at Hanson. I am a passionate believer that every student deserves a first-class education and should also be given the opportunity to enhance culturally regardless of their socio-economic background.

Hanson school is truly comprehensive and is fully inclusive, offering fantastic opportunities to every student. There is a real sense of community within the school, which is apparent from all staff and pupils alike. The range of learners is as broad as imaginable, no two classes are the same. Jack Summers

Teacher of PE (RQT)

I joined Hanson School in 2010 as a PE Cover Supervisor and Technician. After a year I progressed into the role of School Games Organiser which involved working with our feeder primary schools and partner secondary schools to develop a wide range of sporting opportunities for the young school children in our area. Throughout these seven years I was able to build some fantastic relationships with both the staff and pupils. The most rewarding thing for me was to see the young children make some fantastic sporting achievements. We have welcomed so many of these students through our doors into Hanson.

As a former Hanson student I have seen Hanson go through so many significant changes yet it is warming to see our school continue to educate young children from all walks of life in our diverse and vibrant school community.

Throughout my years working at Hanson I have continually sought professional development and gained access into a teacher education programme. The school supported me by offering a place on an Assessment Only course into teaching, while providing me with a full time teaching timetable. Following a successful Assessment Only route I have since completed my NQT year and now start the new academic year as an RQT.

The incredible support network at Hanson has been invaluable to me throughout my training and first year as an NQT, which has provided me all the tools to become the best teacher possible. The Professional Development Centre (PDC), led by our Director of Initial Teacher Training, offers staff the perfect place to share ideas and best practise.

Having loved the school as a student I share the same views now as a member of staff. Hanson School has played a significant part in my life both as a student and now a teacher. I am extremely grateful for this and am proud to be part of an amazing team offering the same opportunities to our next generation.

Nic Fusco

Teaching Assitant – EMA Department

My name is Nic Fusco and I work at Hanson High School as a Teaching Assistant EMA Dept (Ethnic Minority Achievement UK education). I really enjoy my role in school and get a lot of job satisfaction.

In my role as a T.A, I support EMA and SEND students and give them the support they need. Although sometimes working in the classroom giving support can be quite challenging, I can honestly say I enjoy every moment of my job and look forward to coming to work every day for the different opportunities that come my way. I get to meet many students from all over the globe and support them in their English language development. This I find to be very rewarding and I take great pride in their development.
