Headteacher Opportunity
at Hamilton Lodge School And College
About us
Hamilton Lodge is a special residential school for learners aged 11-19 with an identified primary need of Deafness (Mild, Moderate, Severe or Profound). Some of the pupils also have significant additional needs. The school offers both day and residential places.
Language and communication are paramount in the development and learning for Deaf children. We want all our learners to develop their language skills and to be confident communicators. We focus on developing independence and nurturing our learners into developing a positive Deaf identity, self confidence and self esteem.
We work to ensure all our learners:
- develop a full language to support memory & learning
- achieve their academic and vocational potential
- be safe and confident in the modern world
- have happy memories of their childhood and make lasting friendships
- be healthy and resilient both physically and emotionally
Curriculum
Our curriculum has been developed to best prepare our learners for life beyond our school and college and to give them the best possible opportunities to progress in their learning and follow their dreams.
We offer a broad and balanced curriculum based on a modified National Curriculum. The vast majority of our learners are accessing national curriculum programmes of study below their chronological age. We offer a range of accredited qualifications including Signature BSL, GCSE, Entry Level awards, Functional Skills and AQA Unit Awards. They are carefully matched to learners' ability, ultimately ensuring a curriculum offer that offers the right balance of access and challenge required to secure progress in their learning.
For our children who are not yet ready to access the full range of subject based learning or who have difficulty with transitions we have a Specialist Provision which is designed to meet their needs.
Residential Provision
Residential care at Hamilton Lodge is integrated with our educational provision. Strong links exist across all aspects of our school to ensure we are best placed to ensure each individual learner’s experience with us is a positive and progressive one.
Each residential learner has a designated key worker, who will, among other things, agree lines of communication are in place with parents and carers, ensuring they are fully informed about all aspects of their child’s residential experience.
We maintain a team of waking night staff to ensure any learner has support during the night should they need it.
Learners board in separate houses according to their age and gender. They stay four nights per week: Monday to Thursday returning home for the weekend on a Friday afternoon.
